A Message to our readers

In the opinion of the owners/operators of Platte River Truth, the changes described below are all positive, constructive, and will result in badly needed changes that will improve the future of irrigated agriculture and the entire economy of the Central Platte Valley of Nebraska. We urge all farmers, landowners, and businesses to give strong support to this new board and their new leadership as they grapple with fixing the mess created by their predecessors.

Platte River Truth's summary of recent important CPNRD happenings

November, 2004 - NRD elections caused several incumbent CPNRD board members to be ousted and replaced with others who are expected to be more likely to assert local control over NRD matters.

At the November CPNRD board meeting, three board members were selected to serve on the Nominating Committee for election of a new chairman and vice-chairman of the Board, to be elected in January 2005

December, 2004 Board of Directors meeting - Long-time CPNRD director Dick Mercer resigns effective in February 2005 due to a move out of the subdistrict from which he was elected. {NOTE: While Mercer has been often praised by "the establishment" there are those with differing views, a sample of which can be seen by clicking here to read about actions that are believed by some to be a direct result of his strong influence [nearly total control, actually] over the CPNRD board. }

The nominating committee recommended Scott Woodman, Kenesaw, as chairman of the Board of Directors and Barry Obermiller, Doniphan, as vice-chairman of the board.

January, 2005 Board of Directors meeting - Loren Schuett was elected Chairman of the board overriding the nominating committee's recommendation of Scott Woodman. Barry Obermiller was elected Vice-Chairman.

Carroll Sheldon of Kearney was elected to the key position of Chairman of the Water Resources Committee. He replaces Dick Mercer who has held that position as long as it has existed.

KEEP CHECKING BACK - as things happen, there will be more information added here.
