The Nebraska Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is to be acting in the interests of the public. Are they?

Recent actions by the DNR Director bring that into real question. It appears he is trying to change the rules - and in a unilateral fashion.   See an article on this from the Kearney Hub.

This has caused a special meeting of the board of Central Platte NRD to be called for Thursday, April 7, 2005 at 6 PM at the CPNRD offices in Grand Island.
In the past,  Central Platte NRD had expected to use a depletion prediction for irrigation well pumping of 28% over 40 years. At that point, wells in a region where those depletions were predicted might come under "management". It was further expected that the COHYST model would be used to make those predictions.
BUT, it seems that now DNR is saying they are going to use much more difficult criteria than previously agreed to and that would cause a huge increase in the area affected. And, it seems that they are now - after more than $7 million dollars has been spent for COHYST so far, they are now saying they are going to use an older modeling approach that was rejected because of it's inadequacies.
DNR's true colors are showing. COHYST's initial predictions didn't come out like DNR expected. So, now they are trying to change the rules to try to get the answers they want.
DNRs behavior REEKS of POLITICS - NOT SCIENCE! In fact, it is Bad Science (BS for short)
It is the opinion of Platte River Truth that governmental entities and employees/executives who behave this way should be replaced - and immediately!
Governments are to serve the people. In this case that is the hardworking farmers and landowners of Nebraska. DNRs actions appear to be irresponsible and need to be stopped!
