NEW NEWS - On his LAST DAY as Director of the Nebraska Department of Natural Resources Roger K. Patterson signed an order forcing a 50/10 criteria upon irrigators.  In so doing he continued the legacy of his years as DNR Director. He FAILED to present SCIENCE to support his rule, he FAILED to heed the large majority of those who testified against the rule, and he MADE A MOCKERY of the legally required public hearing process by his actions. Furthermore, he MADE A MOCKERY of the concept of public officials being appointed and elected to ACT IN THE INTERESTS OF THE PUBLIC.

Roger Patterson's legacy as Nebraska DNR is that he " GAVE THE ENTIRE STATE OF NEBRASKA THE SHAFT ON HIS WAY OUT OF OFFICE"!!

URGENT Nebraska DNR is holding a crucial hearing in Kearney, NE on Thursday, August 11, 2005 at 9:00 AM at the Holiday Inn. Your rights to irrigate are again under attack from these unprincipled bureaucrats who have no scientific basis for their actions!

IF THE PROPOSED Rule is adopted it could forever restrict our ability to use the irrigation wells we all have and forever harm agriculture in Nebraska.

Click Here to see the details. It is extremely important that people make time to attend this hearing and derail this out-of-control bureaucratic freight train before it is too late.

The Nebraska Department of Natural Resources (DNR) was awarded the first ever "Bad Science (BS) Award" from Platte River Truth.

After reading the details, ask yourself this question: "Should DNR be renamed to be known as the  'Don't Need Reasons' department?"

IMPORTANT - CPNRD board voted on April 7, 2005 - unanimously - to challenge recent actions by the Nebraska DNR Director that would - without scientific basis - further harm irrigators in the Platte Valley.

CLICK HERE to read how Nebraska DNR is (mis)behaving and what caused the Central Platte NRD to call a special meeting of their Board of Directors at their Grand Island Headquarters on Thursday, April 7, 2005 at 6 PM.

According to the CPNRD web sitethe "Meeting will focus on negotiated rulemaking in regards to fully appropriated basins."

Nebraska Supreme Court issues January 21, 2005 ruling

in Pumpkin Creek Spear T Ranch case

This is an important case to the state of Nebraska. To inform yourself and develop your own conclusions, follow the below links to the ruling itself, newspaper articles,  and comments by those who are qualified to provide a reasoned perspective.

Big changes are underway at the Central Platte NRD. The new directors are now in office and they have elected new leadership - with a different view than the previous "regime"- for key positions.

Did somebody convince you that the irrigation well drilling moratoriums being imposed by the various Natural Resource Disticts would NOT hurt the economy?
To see one of the first glaring examples of how business IS BEING HURT and people are losing jobs because of the moratorium, read this article about the recent closing of the Gothenburg office of Sargent Irrigation after 33 years of being there!

After reading this article, ask yourself if you still think the drilling moratorium will not hurt the economy? If you still believe it will not, click here!

Newspaper report - dated 1904 - suggests THE PLATTE RIVER IS IN SERIOUS TROUBLE!

A central Platte Valley newspaper reports that  ... The water in the Platte River has fallen so rapidly in the past week that people are fishing with forks and there are so many fish available with the low water level that fish prices have tumbled ....

CORRECT QUOTE OF THE CENTURY:

" It seems that only in Nebraska, when we get hit by a drought and our surface water flows are low, do we blame groundwater irrigators. "

STUPID QUOTE OF THE CENTURY:

'....Well, we don't have all the details, BUT, we 'JUST KNOW' the pumping of groundwater affects river flow .... '

... Jim Cook, Legal Counsel to the Nebraska Dept. of Natural Resources... in response to a request from a Dawson County Commissioner at a June 29, 2004 meeting in Lexington to provide scientific proof of this claim...

  • Perhaps Mr. Cook - and others who are making these generalized statements without supporting science to prove them - should read the National Academy of Sciences Platte River Report which says:

  • "The connections between surface water and groundwater are not well accounted for in research or decision-making for the central and lower Platte River".

  • Who should be believed - the NAS Scientists who are considered "the gold standard" on objective scientific assessment - or a politically motivated lawyer/bureaucrat who wrote a bad law called LB962?

    • The NAS wins - hands down!

The TRUTH is available below

Click here to read a report on Nebraska Water Myths - including the problems with COHYST and the truth about river flows.
Click here to read the TRUTH about the aquifer levels. See how analysis of water level data shows that recent declines in aquifer levels do not indicate a serious problem. The water levels are simply returning to where they normally are over the long term after being unusually high in the 80's and 90's. Those who think the aquifer is going dry are simply WRONG!

Hearings on the Platte River Recovery Implementation Program Draft Environmental Impact Statement [ also known as ' The Environmental Extremists Attack on Irrigated Agriculture' ] are complete.

Click Here to see what Nebraskans First testimony was. As usual, they are right on target.

Nebraska Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is being extremely aggressive since the passage of  LB962. They have a history of NOT providing supportable engineering & scientific proof of a sound basis for their actions. Will they provide it this time? They had better! It is time they not be allowed to get by with operating on the basis of pure politics. Nebraska's economy and the livelihood of anyone involved directly or indirectly in agriculture is at stake!

NOTE: Click here to see testimony by Nebraskans First which tells the sad story of the bad impact of LB962 the way it truly is.
